Tips for Getting Your Kid to Like Vegetables - Metro Parent

I got to interview Lisa McDowell, MS, RD, CSSD, manager of clinical nutrition at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor for this article. She is also a mom of two and the team sports nutritionist for the Detroit Red Wings so she knows how to encourage kids and adults to eat their veggies. It's worth a read.

Check out the article link. The issue on stands also includes a list of top veggies you should try. Happy Munching!

In Repair

Our lake has receded and the repair bill wasn’t as bad as it could have been. There were a few minutes of panic when I heard gushing water and thought we suffered a busted pipe or broken toilet. Once I realized the noise came from an outside spigot, I trudged into the rain, shut the spout and breathed easier for a little while.

A couple days later I noticed something else was odd. Let’s just say I wound up needing my own set of repairs. And the bills just keep on coming. Thank goodness for my husband and our family – support and love made all the difference.

The important thing to remember is whether it’s your house or your health, it’s important to get regular check-ups! Here’s an idea: Schedule a couple annual visits for the same day. You can check them off your to-do list and toast to good health afterwards.

Cheers!

National Women's Health Week

Women know it’s harder than ever to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The Office on Women’s Health (OWH), a division of The U.S. Department of Heath, also recognizes this challenge. The OWH kicks off National Women’s Health Week Mother’s Day, May 9, 2010. This is a prefect time to celebrate women. Activities include national and local events designed to “empower women to make their health a top priority.”

According to the OWH, women can take five steps to decrease their risk of certain diseases and improve mental and physical health by:

· Getting at least 2 ½ hours of moderate physical activity, 1 hour and 15 minutes of vigorous physical activity, or a combination of both each week.

· Eating a nutritious diet.

· Visiting a health care professional for regular checkups and preventive screenings.

· Avoiding risky behaviors, like smoking and not wearing a seatbelt.

· Paying attention to mental health, including getting enough sleep and managing stress.

4 Simple Secrets to Feeling Happier Every Day

Lucy Danziger, SELF Editor-in-Chief, shares a few steps we can all take to improve our happiness. I especially enjoyed this from her post – “Have fun here, or wherever you may be. This is it. Now is the moment. Enjoy it!”

It’s time to take her advice and enjoy the moment. Maybe I’ll start with a little chocolate treat and see where it leads.
