Unofficial start to summer reads!

If you're looking for a good distraction or just a good unofficial start to summer read, here are a few authors and books you may want to check out:

Colleen Hoover recently released This Girl, her third of the Slammed series - 'butterflying' love it!

Jimmy Connors released a memoir last week - although the guy was a little too busy winning matches to autograph a tennis ball for me at an ATP tourney decades ago, I think I'm over it...his candid approach to this memoir could make a really interesting read.

Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg have a new one called The Heist out June 18.

Tammara Webber rolls out Between the Lines #4 Here Without You this summer

Sue Grafton is nearing Z in her Kinsey Millhone alphabet-titled series. W is for Wasted pubs late summer, but there are 22 other alphabet mysteries you can read until then.

There is plenty more to come! Check back for special announcements and my Summer Reads series—including cool adult and children's books.

Post what's on your bookshelf in the comments, or share with me on Goodreads. :)

What to know about the tornado that devastated Moore Oklahoma yesterday

Yahoo! News has a recap of yesterday's tragic tornado. If you're looking for answers, this helps explain some of what happened. You can also text or contact the Red Cross and Salvation Army if you wish to do more.

Fictionary

Doesn’t it sound clever?  1) It’s a combo of fiction and Pictionary, 2) It’s an f-word I can use in front of my kids.

So, I thought I made up a cool new game. Did I mention I’ve got a bad case of writer’s block? Then I looked it up. It already exists, and it’s some kind of word game where players try to guess the definition of an obscure word. Scripps Spelling Bee contestants take note this could help you prepare! Sorry, I am so off topic. What was I saying?

Anyway, the other totally true definition I found on the web is “lists of amusing fictional words or fictional definitions.” Blah, blah, blah!

I need words and I’m about to make up my own language if my characters don’t start talking to me! They don’t actually talk to me, except in my head. In my imagination, well, it’s not as crazy as it sounds. I think.

Right now, I’m vacillating/swaying/wavering/fluctuating – I can’t find the word, and I’m a WRITER! I’m wavering, I’ll settle on that one for now, between places and times and characters. I had a flow, but it’s like the darn thing possessed me and before I could finish, it up and left me. Argh! It’s so frustrating!

But, I’ll press on. Right after I delve into the all-too-important news of what’s happening to fall TV. Did you hear Body of Proof, Go On, Happy Endings, Rules of Engagement, CSI: NY, Vegas and more are cancelled? I’m really only disappointed in a couple of those cancellations, but I’ll get over it, somehow.

If you have writer’s block or just need to blank out for a few minutes, hours or days, why not try TV? Social media? Speak, face-to-face with your kids and other family members – it happens way too infrequently these days. Maybe take a walk or volunteer at a soup kitchen? I’m not kidding. Sometimes doing for others can really set you right.

As a mother who writes – an exploded diaper, or tantrum is the perfect motivation for heading back into battling with a blank screen. So, here goes! …….. Nothing……nope….nada! Darn!

How do you deal with tough spots and blank pages? Please share the details! I want to read your answers. I need something to do other than analyze fall television schedules, people! I’ll answer your comments, as long as you aren’t some spammer stalker. Plus, you’ll be doing something nice for a writer who is just trying to make her way. J

BTW, I still can’t get past this block. Maybe it’s time for a cookie break~

Let me entertain you...

I'm so excited! And it's not just because we've had three or more straight days of sunshine here. I'm super excited for several reasons.

1. Hubs and I went out on a date. A real date! We went to see Joe Bonamassa, possibly the best concert we've ever seen. He's incredibly talented. With the exception of our lousy colds, we had a blast! We walked together, went to Hockeytown Cafe and had drinks, like real adults sometimes do, and saw a truly great show. What a night! Thank you, mom! We couldn't have done it without your help. Thanks to Debbie for keeping me from hyperventilating. :) Especially, thanks to my dear husband. It was a glorious night with you! Best. Concert. EVA!

Other stuff I'm excited about:
2. Have you been outside? It's finally warming up!

3. While our tulips are stemmy nubs, our rabbits have grown fat and happy. At least someone got to enjoy them. It's pretty cute watching them hop around the yard and skitter when we pull in the driveway, like they've been doing something they shouldn't have.

4. Getting to see my mom before Mother's Day.

5. Mother's Day - don't forget mama this week!

SYOAS - See you online again soon!
